Resources for HS Assignments

The following databases are available to L-S HS students. It is recommended that students consult with the librarian or their teacher in order to assist them in determining which database(s) will be appropriate for their assignment(s).

Access PA 

In need of print resources? Search the statewide database of library materials. If you find an item you would like to borrow through interlibrary loan, please see a member of the library staff. This service is free to students.

Academic Search Main Edition

AP Newsroom

This database captures the greatest events in history and brings them to life with photographs, audio sound bites, graphics, and text. Chat with a Librarian

Contemporary Authors

Culture Grams

CultureGrams is a searchable database containing concise, reliable, and up-to-date cultural information on more than 200 countries, all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, and U.S. states. This database provides online resources, including a worldwide photo gallery, slideshows, video clips,  famous people collection, recipe collection, and more. (Direct access at school. Discovery Education

Discovery Education is a high-quality digital video on demand library that provides thousands of full videos, images, clip art, and other resources. (Sign in via Clever)

EBSCO Ebooks

ePoint Plus

Gale in Context: High School

Gale in Context: High School is a multi-disciplinary database that covers a wide variety of topics on all different subject matters. This database contains newspaper, magazine, and journal articles as well as articles from reference books and video/audio materials. This is a great place to start for almost any research project! Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints

Opposing Viewpoints explores opposing sides of the important issues. The database includes pro/con viewpoints, reference articles from newspapers, magazines, and books, as well as video, graphics, and more. (Direct access at school. To use at home, select the Power Library @ Home link.)

Gale eBooks

Gale OneFile: High School Edition

Secondary students have access to articles from magazines, journals, newspapers, reference books, and multi-media covering a wide range of subjects from science, history, and literature to political science, sports, and environmental studies. (Direct access at school. Browse and read full-text newspapers from more than 2,300 major U.S. regional, national, and local newspapers, plus leading titles from around the world. Gale Power Search is a useful tool that searches all of the Gale Databases and e-books that we have at L-S. Green FILE

This comprehensive e-resource draws on the connections between the environment and a variety of disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology. (Direct access at school. To use at home, select the Power Library @ Home link.)

Infobase eBooks

Access trustworthy research eBooks. Currently our collection contains eBooks containing literature criticism as well as information on selected authors and their works.  (Direct access at school. PA Photos & Documents

Explore millions of digitized photographs, documents, and newspapers from Pennsylvania's rich and varied history. The collections are provided by libraries and other organizations across the Commonwealth. (Available to all internet users. No username/password required.)

Power Library @ Home

Want to use a Power Library database off-campus? No problem! Home access to Power Library is available through the Library System of Lancaster County to library cardholders. Just enter your library barcode number from your library card, and then select Power Library from the list of available resources. Don't have a public library card? No problem! Just visit the Power Library website and learn about their eCard option.

Salem Online

This online resource contains eBooks on topics relating to Health (general medical guide, addictions, psychology), History (Renaissance, 1920s), Social Issues (privacy rights), and Literature (critical insights and essays on selected works and authors). Science Reference Center

This database contains full text science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other reliable sources. In addition, Science Reference Center includes more than 280,000 high-quality science images. (Direct access at school. To use at home, select the Power Library @ Home link.)

Science Reference eBook Collection

Explore science from over 230 full-text eBooks. This collection of reference titles covers a wide variety of topics such as animals, biology, climate, engineering, life science, nature, physical science, and weather.  (Direct access at school. To use at home, select the Power Library @ Home link.)

SIRS Discoverer

Whether you’re a language learning beginner, refreshing past language instruction, or eager to tackle your tenth language—Transparent Language Online will help you get started and stick with it.
